Biography

Jennifer Collins is originally from a small village in the Somerset countryside. She has been studying at the University of Warwick since 2008.

In 2012 she completed her 4 year undergraduate studies for a Masters in Chemistry at the University of Warwick graduating with 1st Class Honours. Her masters project was carried out under the supervision of Professor David Haddleton and was entitled 'Synthesis of Short Block Glycopolymers by Single Electron Transfer (SET) Living Radical Polymerisation'. This involved synthesis and characterization of different sugar containing glycomonomers and subsequent polymer synthesis by copper mediated polymerization.

Jenny started her PhD in 2012 under the supervision of Professor David Haddleton.  She is funded by an EPSRC (Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council) doctoral training award. Jenny is working on a collaborative project with Monsah Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (MIPS) in Monash University, Melbourne, Australia. As part of this collaboration in early 2015 Jenny spent 10 weeks in Australia carrying out tissue contractility studies of therapeutic hormone-polymer conjugates.

Jennifer's current research priorities are:

  • Using living radical polymerization techniques for the synthesis of end functional polymers.
  • Modification and end functionalisation of linear PEG for PEGylation.
  • Peptide-polymer conjugation strategies in a site selective manner.
  • PEGylation of therapeutics for reducing degradation.
  • Glycopolymer synthesis and peptide conjugation.
  • HPLC as an analysis method for monitoring peptide  conjugation degradation.
  •  Investigating biological properties of peptide-polymer conjugates.
